Title: Talk is Cheap

“Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.” - II Corinthians 9:13

It’s easy to say “Lord, Lord” - to confess costs little.  Obedience is another thing altogether and that is what Paul is referring to.  That’s why he states that “men will praise God” because of our Christian obedience.  The confession is great, but obedience with confession is greater.

The world looks in on our Christianity.  They see so many of us saying “Lord, Lord.”  The see us worship and confess obedience.  And isn’t that the issue: How I live my life matters more than the words I say.  Talk is cheap - Action is most valuable.

Lord, Help me walk my walk each and every day.  Amen

Title:  Perspective in Struggles
Page:  30

Scripture:  Job replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman.  Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?

Observation:  After being afflicted with painful sores from head to food, Job’s wife wanted him to curse God.  His response was perfect because it contained perspective, a larger view of his life rather than his current situation.  He had been blessed beyond any other man to that point and though he was going through a period of difficulties, he did not loose sight of his blessings from God.

Application:  To be faithful to God means having greater perspective.  There are periods of great prosperity and times of struggle for me.  To focus entirely on one or the other causes me to loose the full view of my life’s walk with God.  Living a life with God means accepting the good things along with the difficult.  The difficult develops me while the blessing often does not.  Should I then only ask for blessing so I don’t grow?  Certainly not.

Prayer:  Thank you God for the troubles in my life that help me grow, not just the blessings.  I want to be stronger in all things and thank you for it all.  AMEN
